High Impact Polystyrene Has Several Qualities Making It Suitable For Food Packaging
High Impact Polystyrene is also known by the acronym of HIPS. It is a polymer which counts amongst the four polymers most produced in the world. HIPS comes from general purpose polystyrene, known in short as GPPS, which is a polymer that contains glass like characteristics. Once the GPPS is modified with the addition of rubber, High Impact Polystyrene can be created.
HIPS has unique qualities including that of durability, a glossy finish, and strength. Because it also has tremendous stability, is aesthetically appealing and can resist impact, it is used widely in food industries for packaging. Add to the qualities mentioned low cost of production and recycling and you will agree that it is not only one of the most versatile plastics, but also one of the most used and cost effective materials in modern society.
